Looking for a decent stylus smart board

    paul whitehead Community Member

I've never used one before, but I been told by lots of people they're great.  Can anyone suggest a decent stylus smart board for my 27inch iMac?  Not only will I be using Photoshop, but Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects and Muse too; just to name a few.  All around its mostly going to be used for Photoshop.  I was looking at the Wacom boards mainly and any suggestions would help a lot.  Thank you!

Well that's a new one on me, and I had to hit Google to find what a Smartboard is:

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartboard

But you mention Wacom, and AFAIK they don't make Smartboards according to the above definition, but rather what have always referred to as Graphics Tablets.  If that's what you are after, then it depends on your budget, but the Intuos tablets seem to be favourite (although I think Wacom have changed the name now — why on earth does it have to be so complicated?

I use a medium Intuos 4, but if I was shopping today, I'd chose the Intuos 5 Touch.  I'd like some sort of Cintiq, or the Companion, but the Cintiqs are too big to fit into my desktop and workflow, and the Companion is way too expensive for a souped up iPad thingie.

If you already have an iPad, take a look at the Adobe Ink & Slide (Pen & Ruler in English) Has anyone got one of these yet?

I don't know if the OP is looking at tablets, but since you mentioned the Wacoms.  I upgraded from a Touch to an Intuous Pro last holiday season (present to myself) and it was a remarkable difference.  I can't say it has a significant impact on the quality of my work, but the feel and build is really impressive.  I also find that I use the wireless connection a lot, something I didn't think I would use.  Just my $0.02.
