1. Re: Problem with locating a Printer Profile ICC
station_two Aug 29, 2014 8:17 PM (in response to Mark A Goodwin)If your printer does not support the paper and ink referenced by your profile, the printer driver provided by the printer manufacturer will NOT show you that profile.
Could that be your issue?

Mark A Goodwin Aug 30, 2014 4:12 AM (in response to station_two)Mmm…..possibly, but surely the profile would not show in the Proof menu?
Thanks

3. Re: Problem with locating a Printer Profile ICC
station_two Aug 30, 2014 11:55 AM (in response to Mark A Goodwin)Yes, it would.
Soft Proof view is provided by Adobe Photoshop; it doesn't care how you choose to preview your file, and, "from its point of view", it could be that you're sending the file to a printer that supports the profile.
On the other hand, the printing dialog boxes and Print Preview are handled entirely by the Printer Driver, not by Photoshop, and the manufacturer knows what its printer supports or not.
Two entirely different animals.

Mark A Goodwin Aug 30, 2014 3:59 PM (in response to station_two)Ah yes that does make sense. Maybe i can get an Epson R2400 driver that will recognise HP Paper?
Thank you for taking the time to look at my problem, it most appreciated.

5. Re: Problem with locating a Printer Profile ICC
station_two Aug 30, 2014 4:30 PM (in response to Mark A Goodwin)There is just one printer driver for each make and model of printer in each OS, Mac or Win. They don't come in different flavors.
It seems you have an Epson printer, but that is not 100% clear from your posts.
The Epson printer driver may well be recognizing your profile, in all probability it is, but if your combination of ink/paper/printer/profile is not compatible with your printer or the printing mode you are choosing, the printer driver will "protect" you and it will refuse to offer that profile as a choice. The same is true of a defective profile.
I would be very wary of an HP-provided profile.

Mark A Goodwin Aug 30, 2014 5:54 PM (in response to station_two)Thanks once again for putting me straight Drivers……Have you guessed yet that I am not the most technically minded amongst us? OK so I am running a late 2009 Mac Pro, with SSD drive and a further 2TB of storage.
The printer is the Epson Photo Stylus R2400 pro printer. It will be a shame if I can't sort the problem as I have just bout two large (100 sheet) A4 boxes of the stuff and it really is quite nice paper for everyday use.
Can I ask, why do you say be wary of an HP- Provided paper?

station_two Aug 30, 2014 7:51 PM (in response to Mark A Goodwin)Mark,
What I typed was to be "wary of an HP-provided profile", not paper. In my experience, HP has been abysmally incompetent at writing software of any kind throughout the years.
As a matter of fact, have you launched Apple's ColorSync Utility on your Mac and tried to see if it finds anything to repair in the HP profile?
If it comes to that, you can always have a custom made profile, some services can be very reasonably priced. For example, InkJetArt charges as little as $25 for a custom printer profile:

8. Re: Problem with locating a Printer Profile ICC
station_two Aug 30, 2014 7:58 PM (in response to Mark A Goodwin)Of course, a straightforward solution would be to CONVERT your image file to your icc paper profile you downloaded, then print using the Printer Handles Colors option in Photoshop.
Sorry for not mentioning this first.
