dj_paige Sep 17, 2014 9:11 AM (in response to sumubabe8891)Lightroom contains numerous modules designed to cover your workflow from end to end: Import, Library, Develop, Print, Web, Book and Slideshow. Photoshop only covers the develop/editing of your photo (and has lots more tools than Lightroom has). Some people use both. Some people use only one.

dj_paige Sep 17, 2014 9:25 AM (in response to sumubabe8891)I use Lightroom regularly on all of my photos. I have tried the trial version of Photoshop, but decided it was not for me and that I would continue to use Photoshop Elements if I needed more editing power than Lightroom has.

danlovesadobe2 Nov 24, 2014 1:22 AM (in response to sumubabe8891)I get asked a lot as a Photoshop trainer so I've put together this post & a little graphic: Lightroom vs Photoshop - what should I use?

johnhawk666 Nov 24, 2014 6:10 AM (in response to sumubabe8891)Unfortunately, it's no help to anyone unfamiliar with either to see Adobes marketing departments peculiar decision to tack on the word " Photoshop" in front of "Lightroom". Both programs share features, but are really addressing rather different markets, and newcomers may get false impressions, at least initially, about their feature sets.

7. Re: Photoshop Lightroom vs. Photoshop
dj_paige Nov 24, 2014 6:34 AM (in response to danlovesadobe2)Yes, I agree with johnhawk666, using a single word in your graphic to describe the difference between the two programs, especially since that word may not be meaningful to parts of your audience, is not a useful description to me, and probably not a useful description to most people.
Yes, there's a lot more description of what the differences are in the linked article, although the organizing features of Lightroom are only mentioned but not described. Analogies to battle tanks and fire engines to me are completely off the mark, and again are meaningless to someone like me who has no experience with a battle tank or fire engine.

danlovesadobe2 Nov 24, 2014 11:51 PM (in response to johnhawk666)Yeah - I hate that Adobe have throw the word Photoshop in the front of Lightroom. Super confusing.

danlovesadobe2 Nov 24, 2014 11:56 PM (in response to dj_paige)It's just the way I describe it dj_paige, I agree it's not a complete or perfect description, it's a pretty fuzzy one to answer.
P.S I love the analogies to tanks and fire engines!

10. Re: Photoshop Lightroom vs. Photoshop
danlovesadobe2 Nov 25, 2014 1:31 AM (in response to dj_paige)Ok - on reflection the quote doesn't really help answer the question.
I'd love help to come up better reply. Any suggestions?
What about "Lightroom is for photography. Photoshop is for fakery."

11. Re: Photoshop Lightroom vs. Photoshop
DdeGannes Nov 25, 2014 2:31 AM (in response to sumubabe8891)The real answer is there is no "Photoshop" in Lightroom, its more of an alternative to Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw which are functions / plugin of Photoshop.

Agreed. I have never understood why they do that.
Curious and confusing.

Keith_Reeder Nov 25, 2014 5:39 AM (in response to John Waller)+1 for "Photoshop Lightroom" being an obtuse and confusing name...
