1. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
Liam Dilley Sep 10, 2014 3:19 PM (in response to cristinel@adobe)When can we see an update to the Alpha Cristinel to test things, Because from my perspective these dates are too soon. I would have things working and useful rather then sooner then later. We not been able to see actual tests with the caching system etc yet as well.

Liam Dilley Sep 10, 2014 4:46 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)As a note, if you can push the latest work to Alpha I really would like to test it.
I have reported a number of issues, bugs and missing stuff which I gather are sorted in more recent builds your end. It would be great to give us the chance to sweep through this for you if these dates are so close.
For me, I would actually go that you move all those time frames up by at least a month.

mario_gudelj Sep 11, 2014 3:38 AM (in response to Liam Dilley)Hey Liam, the sooner they it's pushed out the more useful feedback they'll receive. Not that your feedback isn't valid, but more people will get engaged this way and more bugs will surface, more requirements and only then will BC know where to invest their effort. I never had tie to play around with alpha environment and I'm sure this is true for 99% of partners. I'd love to see this thing out tomorrow. Very excited! Good work BC!

4. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
Liam Dilley Sep 11, 2014 3:45 AM (in response to mario_gudelj)I do not mind that, but they said that about open platform, and when will they be able to get back to things on that? They can not keep holding off core work etc and I am concerned things come out broken or missing key things, JSON is not really useable... Etc
Totally get you and it is great work to get this so close, but you know me, I am a stickler for do it right first time if your going to do it.
At least want to see the bugs and some of the bigger things in there. JSON output example I have done have pagination coming out etc. I am sure stuff we have reported has been sorted internally as its been weeks since an alpha update but It would be great to have a quick look, test and confirm for the BC team and feel a bit happier about stuff.
And with the new rendering engine and caching, its a big thing... For BC's sake I just do not want to see people hitting the forums, twitter and live chat screaming at BC their sites are all messed up or the servers keep going down etc.

5. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
Liam Dilley Sep 11, 2014 4:05 AM (in response to Liam Dilley)Oh and testing wise - Yeah, I feel for BC on that front. There has been very few people testing things. That is disappointing. We been pushing "help test" in Brass Tacks etc. I know that has probably been frustrating at BC's end.

6. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
mario_gudelj Sep 11, 2014 4:08 AM (in response to Liam Dilley)But that's why they have that switch. If **** hits the fan you simply go back to the old rendering engine. And you can never release perfect software in the first go. People like yourself are rare mate. The rest of us mortals release MVP and then improve on it.
Can't wait for that JSON stuff to come out. JSON JSON JSON Jason JSON

7. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
cristinel@adobe Sep 11, 2014 5:28 AM (in response to Liam Dilley)Hi Liam,
The goal of the launch is to have the new rendering engine and related background infrastructure released so that we can start the migration of the existing sites that are not using any of these features. For that, we have done or will do:
- We've already upgraded SQL servers
- We'll upgrade application servers
- We'll add additional caching layers
- We'll launch the liquid rendering engine; this does not mean that all the modules will be converted to liquid or that we'll have includes for instance; liquid itself will remain in beta following the launch
- We'll have the module_json working
- Admin will have the new editor
- The rest of the items will be released subsequently
Regards,
Cristinel -
8. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
Liam Dilley Sep 11, 2014 5:39 AM (in response to cristinel@adobe)Ok, thanks.
The main goal is basically get BC running on the new Core BC as it were as it is not just about Liquid etc but about the new backbone of the platform and getting the ball rolling on the migration to it?That is great, totally on board with getting that ball rolling as you outline there are a few steps to it. I just hoping not to have things like liquid, caching system etc rushed and buggy and then staying that way until a cycle it is revisited etc. That is my only concern.
Hopefully Mihai will pass on what I sent to him regarding JSON, its much more then just the module.

cristinel@adobe Sep 11, 2014 5:43 AM (in response to Liam Dilley)Hi Liam,
Yes you got it right. We will not actually say that liquid is final, cause it's not. We still need to improve and we have tons of things to still to there. I'll have Mihai ping you back.

10. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
WGIT1 Sep 11, 2014 7:40 AM (in response to cristinel@adobe)Cristinel.... What is this "NEW ENGINE" -- I thought all websites would continue to work as is? From what you are saying in your post today it sounds like we are going to have to test ALL websites by mid December to ensure they work on this "New Engine" and if they don't we will need to find solutions on our own?

11. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
Daryl Barnes Sep 12, 2014 1:18 PM (in response to cristinel@adobe)I'm all for releasing the new engine ASAP. I can't imagine anything being worse than leaving the old admin editor in place for even another day.
Since the old rendering code shouldn't break, I think it's fine to release as is and improve as you go. Maybe there should be indicators in the docs as to what's still in beta or not as far as the new rendering engine is concerned.

12. Re: Wrapping out for the first release in production of the new engine
Lynda Spangler Sep 13, 2014 10:24 PM (in response to cristinel@adobe)Can't wait to see this released! As Mario said I believe the main problem with testing is many of us don't have the time to work in the alpha environment and provide feedback. I know I haven't even though I really want to. Once it is released I have a few sites I will be able to turn it on and start playing and providing feedback while I work on those sites.
I do want to add that I agree with Liam 100% when he says, "I just hoping not to have things like liquid, caching system etc rushed and buggy and then staying that way until a cycle it is revisited etc."
