Last week, I was printing some things I had done on Illustator, it was on a friend regular printer, an Epson one i think, and well, the results were not good, the reds turned into some kind of dark brown, and the blues into an almost black color. Almost all colors were really distorted
I think that file was on CMYK, and my friend told me that it might had been because the file had colours not available on the printer range.
Any idea? I'm doing another work on A3 and I can't take mistake on this.

If it helps, I did it on Illustrator CC (last version)
try changing your document color space to RGB
assuming your friend's printer is an inkjet printer--it prints using CMYK inks but it is designed to automatically convert RGB files on the fly--so--a CMYK file will be converted 'improperly' and usually results in prints like you describe
