Typekit for the web and multiple sites

    Rob Hecker2 CommunityMVP

When one creates a new kit in typekit, the following example is given for the websites to activate the kit on:

      For example: "*.nytimes.com, localhost, 127.0.0.1"

That tells me the kit can be used with:

      • any subdomain of the domain
      • local system?
      • ip address instead of domain name

But when I try to use an ip address instead of domain name, it doesn't work. The only documentation I found says nothing about ip addresses. Does anyone know?

          Hi Rob,

I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this.  It is possible to use a localhost domain name or an IP address in your Typekit kit settings. The Typekit JavaScript checks the address of the website as reported in the browser referer against the domain listing on your kit, so that listing should include any address(es) where you are developing or testing the site.

Make sure you have republished your kit after adding the new domain(s) to the listing on your kit.  You can republish the kit from the kit management page:

          https://typekit.com/account/kits

If the fonts are still not loading after republishing, please run some tests in the browser to help us figure out why that is.

          1. Clear your site cache so that the Typekit files are requested from the network again.

          2. Select the network tab in the developer tools and keep it open.

          3. Go to the page that's giving you trouble. Verify that it loads and that the fonts still aren't loading properly.

          4. In the network tab, scroll down until you find the requests from Typekit; there should be a JavaScript file and a CSS file.

          5. Select the JS filename, then select the Headers tab that appears.

          6. Resize the window so that all header info rows are visible.

          7. Select the HTML tab.  Is the font marked as "wf-active" in the font events on the HTML tag?

I have attached sample screenshots at the bottom of this post so that you can see what information we are looking for.  If you prefer not to share the screenshots on the forum, send them to us directly at support@typekit.com.

I hope that this helps; let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you,
