Is there a Premiere Pro equivalent of option-replace in After Effects?

I just edited a 30 second commercial using the live link between After Effects and Premiere Pro to replace raw green screen shots with fully composited shots from After Effects. For the most part I loved it, and it saved a ton of time.

But it would have been SO helpful if I could have switched between versions of a particular shot while maintaining a live link to both versions. In other words, if they could both have lived in my Premiere bin and I could have option-dragged one into the sequence to replace the other, that would have been great.

I found that the current functionality made it very difficult to react to client feedback. I like to keep multiple versions of sequences as I cut. But with the live links in place, any changes I make in the AE comps ripple backwards, so my sequence from three days ago doesn't have my AE comps from three days ago. Rather it has my current versions of the AE comps, with no way to preserve a live link to any older versions.

So when the client asked me to put something back the way I had it, was VERY challenging to comply with that request.

If I'm missing something and the option-drag functionality does exist, I would be very grateful for any suggestions about how to employ it.

      Thanks!
