1. Re: Replace Premiere clip with after effect for frame blending -- question
eikonoklastes Oct 23, 2014 6:09 AM (in response to Stevie Video)Hello,
When you se the "replace with..." workflow the clip sometimes comes into AE as a precomp. I don't know what your experience with Ae is but this is basically a nested clip (it shows as a brown layer). If you double-click the layer, it should take you to the actual video layer, where you should be able to adjust the Frame Blending options. Once you've done this, remember to go back to your main comp (the one that opened when you executed the "replace with", because this is the one that has your in/out points and other Premiere settings like Scale for e.g.
On a side note:
Are you attempting to convert an edited set of clips, or do you want to convert all your clips?
If you want to convert all your clips, import them directly into AE and use this helpful link:
http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/frame_rate_converter/
Alternatively, if you don't need sync between video and audio, you can export the clips as an image sequence and then import that back at 25 fps.

2. Re: Replace Premiere clip with after effect for frame blending -- question
Stevie Video Oct 23, 2014 7:07 AM (in response to eikonoklastes)Hi Eikonoklastes
Thank you very much for your reply, unfortunately I don't have experience with After Effects, and all I really wants to do with it is to have a smooth conversion from 29.97 to 25, without losing sound or having the clip starched longer or distorted.
You are right if I click on the brown it does open a new tab in comp where I can enable blending.
As I said I don't have after effect knowledge and would be very grateful if I could have step by step instructions on how to reduce the frame rate in AE without changing the clip, and how to take it back into premiere so I can keep editing my sequence? So far it shows Media offline in premiere.
I do not want to convert all my clips just a few that were created on a different recorder.
Thanks

3. Re: Replace Premiere clip with after effect for frame blending -- question
eikonoklastes Oct 23, 2014 8:00 AM (in response to Stevie Video)Before getting into that, I would suggest you try mixing your clips into a Premiere timeline without converting and see if you're getting acceptable results. Premiere generally handles mixed frame rates pretty decently.
If that doesn't work out, just import the clips (that you want to convert) directly into AE, follow that tutorial I posted earlier and export your converted clips from AE.
Good luck.

4. Re: Replace Premiere clip with after effect for frame blending -- question
Stevie Video Oct 23, 2014 9:44 AM (in response to eikonoklastes)Hi,
I have about 30 of these clips all set and cut correctly so I much rather do it with in Premire rather then import them all again and re-edit all my timeline.
Believe me if it looked good in Premiere I would not ask this question.
As for the tutorial it is extremely complicated and he uses some 3rd party filters for it.
I looked high and low for some proper instructions step by step but can't find it anywhere, I don't want to be a AE savvy just want to have a clean 29.97 to 25, without jumpy frames.
Thanks
