    No pictures on clips

    ckelley3 Community Member

I've been working on a project for a while and all has been going well, except just the other day, when I would load the project, none of the clips on any sequence displayed a preview picture. I'm basically working with blank clips that will play just fine, but won't let me know what they are until place the player head over them. What's the deal?

          Huh?

Please elaborate, including such key data points as exact version of PPro (as shown in the About box), operating system, graphics card & driver, & Renderer setting (File>Sequence Settings>General).

Premiere Pro CC 2014 V8.0 "single barrel", Mac OS X 10.9.5, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB, "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only"

The deal is, when clips are placed on the timeline, no matter what sequence it is, they do not produce a picture at the front of the clip that signifies what the clip is. All it gives me is the name of the clip, i.e. "MVI_0730." I can put the head over the clip and start playing and all of them will play in the program screen just fine, but I do not know what clip it is until I place the head over it because the clip does not have a picture on it. I haven't messed with any of the basic settings since I started the project, and when I started the project, the clips produced a signifying picture on the blue clip itself once placed on the timeline.

Timeline Preferences Menu has option on how to display those.

Ah, the "thumbnails." I should've gotten it from "preview pictures."

You'll find three options (Head & Tail, Head only, and Continuous) in the Timeline panel menu,  and another option--Show Video Thumbnails--in the Timeline Display Settings menu (the Wrench).

Also, I'll add to this, that you'll only see those thumbnails when you have your track height larger. If your track height for the video tracks is minimized, it will never show the thumbnails, so if they suddenly disappeared, this could be the reason why.

It's funny you mention it; I've always wanted to find the use of those thumbnails helpful in my workflow but I've never really found that they add anything to my experience or help me in any way. But to each their own!
