CS4, MacOS 10.9.5 (Mavericks): "Licensing for this product has stopped working."

I am trying to run Photoshop CS4 on a new Mac after a logic board failure on the old machine, and I get the above error message. I downloaded the License Recovery app, but it apparently doesn't run on Intel systems. If I try to run it in the Terminal app (using instructions from Adobe to drag the License Recovery app into a terminal window), I get a message saying there's a syntax error in line 1 of the program.

What are my options here? This is very frustrating.

Thanks . . .
