how to resolve an activation error message

I installed Adobe Digital Editions 40.1 and activated it on my laptop and Nook reader.  I can borrow a book from my library and it shows up in my library.  I can drag/drop it to my Nook but when I try to open it I get an error message "user not activated" even after activating both the computer and Nook device (and checking that the authorization is the same email)

Can anyone help??  Has anyone else had 7 resolved a similar issue?
