Audition constantly crashing, Event Viewer Error on MSVCR110.dll

    UCFKnight Community Member

I am using one of the Adobe MAX Surface Pro 3s to do some audio editing with Audition CC 2014.1. I just started using it yesterday with a brand new installation of the software. I was able to record the audio with no problems on the same device using the same software with a Shure USB adapter and a Shure mic. The audio recorded better than it did on my MacBook Pro Retina with the same audio equipment, by the way. MacBook has been tossed into the toilet. Anyway, while editing, my Audition crashes every few minutes or so. It has gotten VERY annoying. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Rebooted several times, etc. I thought it might be using the bar at the top for zooming, so I stopped using that and when to only keystrokes. Still crashed. I thought it might be using the spacebar to start and stop the timeline, so I stopped using that. Still crashed. I stopped using the track pad mouse on the provided keyboard, and that has seemed to help significantly. Not a clue at this point. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I checked the Event Viewer and this is what I found:

This is a bit of a guess, but there have been similar reports before. The .dll that appears to have crashed is part of the C++ redistributable package provided from Microsoft that Audition (and probably all the other CC software as well) need to run. You may need to look in the 'installed software' section of the control panel and find out what's going on there - sometimes you can get several versions of the redistributable on one machine, and they could be conflicting with each other. Whether you need more than one version is debatable...

I am seeing crashes - very reproducible btw - in that MS dll as well. I just installed a patched version as of today (11/11) and it still crashes in just the same way. If I set the playback preference to scroll the waveform display, it bombs the instant that horizontal scrolling would have begun. I have a dump file. I had one a month ago but support said they didn't need it.  I need a fix or a workaround. Now!  (I've reverted to the earlier version and it seems to work but complains when I start it, twice, about CFHDDecoder.dll being missing. It seems to work anyway.

This problem has been present since the initial release of CC 2014. Every time my credit card account is debited to pay for my CC subscription, I grumble. This is very poor customer service.

The workaround at this time is to revert Windows HiDPI scaling to 100%.  The CFHDDecoder error sounds like a GoPro Cineform installation issue, as I believe that is the codec file.  Do you have GoPro software installed?

I have never touched UI DPI scaling. It's set at whatever is the default value. The crash is apparently related to graphics though I presume because it bombs every time the display is beginning horizontal scrolling.

Thanks for the GoPro hint. I -do- have their software installed.
