Cannot successfully update Flash Player on my MacBook Pro

I cannot update my Adobe Flash Player on my MacBook Pro.  I get prompted for a Name/Password after a download the Installer File.  I don't know the Name/Password and I have been locked out of videos because I get a "Flash out-of-date" message.  Tried Apple User/Password, but no luck.
