New version of Flash won't install

The newest version of Flash 15.0.0.189 would not install on my Snow Leopard MacBook Pro.

So, I followed the instructions on the Adobe Help board and UN-installed the version that was working 15.0.0.125 (I think).

Now, not only can't I get Flash to install, I've got no Flash Player at all.

I've rooted out the plugins, the old installer folders, everything. Restarted. Still the installer stalls at 95% completion ... and jumps to 100% after a few seconds and tells me nothing except "Installation Failed".

What worked for me is this:

(1) Download the flash installer

(2) Locate the installer (it's a dmg file) and double-click to mount the image

(3) When the image mounts on the desktop, DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK THE INSTALLER. Instead, control-click on the installer and select "Show Package Contents"

(4) A Finder window will pop up, with a folder called "Contents" inside. Open the "Contents" folder.

(5) Inside "Contents", there is a folder called "MacOS". Open it.

(6) Inside is a Unix executable file caled "Adobe Flash Player Install Manager". DOuble-click to un.

(7). It will open up the Terminal first, but then it will look like a regular install/update.

I have the same problem, ever since I try to update to the latest version. Here is my logs. It clearly states that the installer is trying to do something as "root". Look at the line "

Has ANYONE in Adobe tested Yosemite and Flash 15.XXXX Installer? Does not look like it. The Adobe staff are harvesting information but no one is providing a solution. Free software but no support

On Yosemite, you may need to change your GateKeeper settings to Allow apps downloaded from Mac App Store and Identified Developers.

Also, are you running as Administrator or as a standard user? You may need to do the installation from an Administrator account.

Sorry Staff, but your comment are not great, and really not good. By default, Gatekeeper is adjusted to the settings you are mentioning. Furthermore, I am an Apple Certified Support Professional,... Your comments adds nothing to the thread that something is wrong with Flash, the current version and Yosemite.

Not to mention that most of us turn the annoying Gatekeeper off. Does anyone on the support staff have any Macintosh experience at all? As is proven by all the evidence given, the fault is with the installer, not with our Macs. Please take your heads out of your rears and attempt to do something about this.

We tested Flash Player extensively and are unable to reproduce the installation issue described.

If you boot into safe mode, does the installation complete?

No - you kindly suggested that on another thread and I tried it, but to no avail.

Please - it can't be this hard - can it? It was working one day (after I installed Yosemite) but the next it said Flash Player had expired - no choice to use the old version. Now I can't do the on-line course I've paid lots for because it uses flash player.

It is becoming more and more frustrating!

Sorry - I wouldn't know how to find it now. It was a message that came up on the screen when I was doing my course.

The website needed Flash Player and it said something along the lines of 'the version of Flash Player you are using has expired please download new version'. Since then I have totally uninstalled Flash Player as per instructions of many after the new version would not install properly.

I am using Chrome as an emergency method now but really prefer Safari.

Apple instructed Safari to reject all previous Flash Player versions as "blocked plugin".

Did you try to install it using the offline installer that I posted earlier?

Yes I did that and it did exactly the same thing. I replied to the original post to that effect too.

It has been a few days and I heard no more from it so googled the problem again and found this thread.

It is possible that some remains of an older version are still somewhere on your system.

Uninstall Flash Player using http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html then reinstall the latest version again.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have run the Uninstaller at least twice now and tried the offline installer also.

Safari blocklisted old Flash Player versions a week or two ago to ensure that all users picked up an important security change. They had an older version of Flash Player installed and hit the Safari blocklist dialog.

The installation logs provide some pretty good clues:

If you go to Control Panel > Users & Groups, there should be a list of users. Under the username that you're currently using, does it say "Admin" or "Standard" underneath?

In Control Panel > Security & Privacy, is Allow apps downloaded from Mac App Store and Identified Developers selected?

If the answer to both of those is "yes", and you're still stuck, what happens when you run the Beta installer?
