I was wondering if there is a better workflow? I heard that Final Cut has shortcuts to do this very easily, you just click on all those clips in sequence and "batch export" them, which puts them in some place as separate, already cut files.?
You can do this in Premiere Pro CC (7.1), or later. Have you tried it yet?
Thanks,
Kevin

I will feel really stupid if its really soIm on 8.0.1 (21) build, how exactly do I do this?

3. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
Kevin-Monahan Nov 28, 2014 12:52 PM (in response to nikwilleo)Hi Nik,
Place the clips into a sequence and trim them if you like. Then select the clips in the timeline and drag them into a bin. In the bin, select all the clips and choose File > Export > Media. Choose your export settings and then you can transcode them all in one go. If you have FCP installed, you can use the ProRes codecs. You might consider ProRes 422 for that.
Hope that helps,
Kevin

LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 9:26 AM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Hi there Kevin, I have been looking for a solution for this issue for years and I was SO excited to see this post. However, when I try dragging my clips into a new bin, only 1 clip shows up everytime... what am I doing wrong?

Kevin-Monahan Dec 4, 2014 9:47 AM (in response to LucidGeorge)Hi George,
This was a new feature in Premiere Pro CC. 7.1, I believe. Are you running an earlier version?
Thanks,
Kevin

6. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 10:49 AM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)I have the latest version Kevin, I even did an update right now, it doesn't work.
I highlight all my clips in the timeline, then drag them over the "new bin" icon in the project window. It creates a new bin fine, but it only has one clip listed under it. I have even tried creating a new bin first, then dragging all the clips from the timeline to it - nothing

Yes, you need to create a new bin first, then drag them in. Works just fine here. Can you try it with a new project?
Thanks,
Kevin

LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 2:15 PM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Hey Kevin,
I am really confused... it still doesn't work. I have just downloaded and updated to Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 releases 8.1.0 (81) Build
Still can't get this to work, not matter what I try... I really need to get this to work... can you please share your steps if it works there, I am not sure why it doesn't work here.

9. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
Kevin-Monahan Dec 4, 2014 2:18 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)Hi George,
Here you go:
- Create a new bin.
- Select the clips in the Timeline you want to export.
- Drag the clips to the bin.
- Clips are now in the bin.
- Export them by selecting them and choosing File > Export > Media
If this isn't working for you, you might try trashing preferences.
Thanks,
Kevin -

So how does one trash preferences? I am on a mac pro

11. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
R Neil Haugen Dec 4, 2014 2:27 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)Just did it here, let's see ... to select the clips, did you drag a "bounding box" around them, then drag & drop? Or click on one clip, then " ctrl-A" to select all, then d&d? I've tried both here successfully ...

LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 2:29 PM (in response to R Neil Haugen)Thank you Neil,
I am glad it's working for you still not working here no matter what creative way I decide to try as far is highlighting the clips.

The sequence layers are not locked, no. Don't know if the screengrab made it through?

17. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
R Neil Haugen Dec 4, 2014 2:52 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)I did note that the only two selected as of that "grab" were the last pair ... on V2 & V3 ... hmmm ... still trying things to puzzle this one

18. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 3:01 PM (in response to R Neil Haugen)I seem to have figured out "something"...
This does NOT work if you only have a video layer, but it works if you have both a video and an audio layer.... that sucks for me...
-
19. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 3:20 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)However, even when the drag and drop actually works (when there is audio and video), then you "export media" but it does not remember the in and out points when you render... what's the point?

20. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 3:22 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)The in and out issue can be fixed in Encoder by highlighting all queued items and editing their settings... figured at least that part out.
-
21. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 3:24 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)Nevermind... the aboe fix for the in and out issue only works on the top listed item in the queue, so it would have to be set manually for each one... this is ridiculous...

22. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
LucidGeorge Dec 4, 2014 3:34 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)SO, Adobe or Kevin, if you are listening:
Thanks for this "feature" but it's incomplete, here are the issues listed:
1. This only works when you are dragging and dropping video that has audio
2. Once you have all your clips dragged into a bin, and you click "export media" there isn't an way to tell Encoder to only export the in/out trimmed parts of clips
3. In Encoder, once you highlight all of the queued up items, you can "supposedly" make changes that will affect ALL items highlighted, however choosing between "entire clip" to "in/out points" does NOT affect ALL items on the queue somehow...
Please let me know if there are workarounds, or plans to fix these. I really appreciate it. In the stock video world, these tools would go a long way. Thank you.

24. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
R Neil Haugen Dec 4, 2014 4:09 PM (in response to R Neil Haugen)Kevin Monahan ...
Lucid George is right ... select one trimmed clip, File->Export->Media, you can choose whether in-out or entire clip.
Select MORE than one clip, you get a completely different export box ...
These two selections were "exported" from that bin created by dragging the trimmed clips from the timeline to a new bin ... I don't know what else one is supposed to do. You can't even select multiples clips and batch sub-clipping, which would at least cut the steps down.

clauderozsa Dec 4, 2014 10:51 PM (in response to R Neil Haugen)Hi Neil,
Just to say thanks!! This thread has solved a question for which I could find no answer! How stupid pf me not to have tried it. I was always wondering how to select some of my clips and not the whole sequence. I used the Ctrl + the first clip and the last one and it did not work! So imagine to select each one with the capital key selected at the same time, what it took to do the trick! Not to mention that if you don't position at the right place the mouse en one clip it deselects everything! I did not a single minute try what one does to select multiple key frames!

R Neil Haugen Dec 4, 2014 11:16 PM (in response to clauderozsa)Always happy to help. Some of the most useful things I've learned here were simply a side-note on how to do something else, where in the midst of explaining X feature in use it was mentioned that oh it's a good idea to use this to do y first ... and I'd been struggling on how to do that y thing.

LucidGeorge wrote:

Neil brings up a good issue. If you have a large group of clips, it's cumbersome to not be able to be able to have control over the In/Out marks.
Alternatively, you could use the Project Manager's Consolidate and Transcode function to batch export clips with or without handle and in a mezannine editing codec (like ProRes or Cineform). Try a short test and see if it works for you.
Thanks,
Kevin

LucidGeorge Dec 5, 2014 1:52 PM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Kevin,
I am sorry, but I have no idea what you are referring to, but also wanted to make sure you've read all of my previous messages as I brought up most of these issues and had to discover them the hard way after pulling my hair trying to do something you were confident worked.
I am looking for some specific answers to some specific shortcomings of the software please. Can you address or point me in the right directions of A) who to talk to or B) where can I make feature requests.
Thank you so much in advance for your time and efforts. I hope this issue can be resolved.

30. Re: Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.
R Neil Haugen Dec 5, 2014 2:04 PM (in response to LucidGeorge)Kevin's reply was actually rather direct towards your needs, I think. Here's a screen-grab of the project manager (near the bottom of the "File" menu) ... you've noted you would like to edit a bit, then export the shortened clips only to someone else to finish assembly ... so ...
I think this has the controls you need? This is what he was talking about as the "Consolidate & Transcode" option ... with choices such as include "handles" which are short bits of footage either side of the cuts so that transitions have something to utilize without shortening your clips (and you can adjust how many frames by how many seconds you want available on the front & back of each clip for transitions). It will even calculate if you click that the space the resulting outputted project file will take.
Neil
