    Timeline won't play

    MJ626 Community Member

I have a recurring problem with one project.  It's an ongoing project where I need to make new commercials every week.  Often, when I open the project, the media loads, but the timeline won't play.  It will display a frame at where the playhead is when it opens, but nothing will change when I drag the playhead across the timeline.  The only fix that I can find is to hold down Shift+Option when I open the project.  This, of course, deletes all my preferences which I need to fix every time.  Often, I'm having to do this 3 or 4 times a day.  Does anyone know where I should look to fix the problem?  When I did this work on FCP7, I would start a fresh project and copy the folders from the corrupt project into the new project.  Now, I try to make a new project every week, and I use the Media Browser to import the folders from the previous version.  I can't start fresh each time, because it would take me hours each time to collect all the clips that I've already collected in my current projects.

I'm editing Premiere Pro CC2014.1 on a 2011 MacPro running Mavericks 10.9.5.  I do use the Colorista 2 plug in for color correction.  I output using a Matrox MXO LE2 Max.  The timeline does include some clips that I've rendered out of After Effects.

Thanks for any help on this.  I'm not as familiar troubleshooting Premiere Pro as I was on FCP7.

It sounds like you updated your project file to a major new version of Premiere Pro mid-way through your project. It is typically not recommended to do that, and with 2014.1, we are seeing issues with those that are doing so—unfortunately.

Is it possible to move back to your original CC 2014 project and complete it, then update to CC 2014.1 and start a new project? That would be my recommendation. If the same thing occurs on a wholly new project, create a new post.

          Thanks,
          Kevin

Thanks for the response.  Unfortunately, I can't go back.  This is something that I need to update every week.  Are you recommending that I just create a new project and start over from scratch in CC 2014.1?

Before you do a test with a new 2014.1 project, you may try basic troubleshooting and see if you can work reliably again. Try these things:
