1. Re: using lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop elements 12
R_Kelly Nov 23, 2014 12:22 AM (in response to rtjr220)Usually that means that lightroom sent over the photo in 16 bits/channel and you want 8 bits/channel in order to use layers in photoshop elements.
After you open the image from lightroom into photoshop elements you can go Image>Mode and click on 8 bits/channel
or in the Lightroom Preferences (Edit)>External Editing set the Bit Depth to 8 bits/component

rtjr220 Nov 27, 2014 5:50 AM (in response to rtjr220)Thanks Bob but I shoot portraits and weddings, every time I've used 8 bit I lose alot in depth. Is there any way to get Elements to work? I moved over from PSP because of Lightroom and the components of Photoshop. I got elements instead of CC, I don't like paying monthly fees that will soon outrun the purchase value of any software. Thanks in advance for your help.

This doesn’t seem to make sense if you are making profits from portrait and wedding photography.
It’s still possible to make a one-off investment in CS6 but prices have increased ($1,449 on Amazon for Photoshop CS6) and there will be no future updates. By comparison The Photography Plan at $9.99 per month (or local price) is constantly updated with the latest tools and includes both Lightroom and Photoshop.
You may not want to switch immediately but perhaps when LR6 is launched you may wish to have a re-think as Elements is always likely to remain a consumer product.
