1. Re: how can I add an image to simply work on it ?
JJMack Nov 22, 2014 12:11 PM (in response to pspottswood)What a Photoshop library? Photoshop can open many image file format into Photoshop Documents. You can do that using front end applications like Windows File explorer, Finder, Bridge, LR and others. You can also drop File onto running Photoshop or Desktop Photoshop launch icon. A double click on an image file on the desktop may also launch Photoshop and cause Photoshop to open the image file.

Warunicorn Nov 22, 2014 8:56 PM (in response to pspottswood)Is this Photoshop CC 2014? You have to drag the element from the workspace into the Libraries panel. (e.g., If you have a text object, you take the text object from the workspace and click + drag it right into the Libraries panel. Do *not* try to drag it from the Layers panel.)

Silkrooster Nov 22, 2014 9:21 PM (in response to pspottswood)Yep, the newest version of the suite now includes a library. Which makes it more difficult to determine if the new user is using elements or the full version.
Adobe added the library panel to make it easy to move items from one app to another.
So we can no longer assume elements anymore when they mention library.

jml007 Nov 22, 2014 9:48 PM (in response to pspottswood)I opened a multi layered image in PS. Using the Move tool, I dragged a layer into the library, then dragged the Background layer into the Library.
Then I opened another image. Then I dragged one of the library elements into the new image.
Closed the first image. And the parts of the first image stayed in the Library.
Seems to work just fine for me.
Then you can always save the layers as files by doing File> Scripts > Export Layers as Files. Only the layers with the eyeball shown/on will export to separate files.

JJMack Nov 22, 2014 9:53 PM (in response to Warunicorn)Yes I have seen the CC 2014 Library Panel but have not used it. I though it was just an other web thing. From what you wrote it does not seem to be image files that you put into the library panel more like parts of a document. I that correct.

7. Re: how can I add an image to simply work on it ?
jml007 Nov 22, 2014 10:23 PM (in response to JJMack)Yes that was my first time using it. I couldn't put an entire image in the library because the Library is only 1 panel for the whole Photoshop session it seems. You can open many images but there is only 1 library that holds elements for all images coming and going, the best I can tell.
It sorta acts like Bridge's Collections panel. It's just a holder for elements.
I really need to learn that tool. Too late tonight...
Just looked into Libraries, It is saved forever until you delete the Libraries. It is in fact an Asset Holder.

Silkrooster Nov 22, 2014 11:02 PM (in response to jml007)personally I have not had the time to pay around with the library, but from I understand you can group some files into folders to separate your assets.
