1. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
Rick Gerard Oct 30, 2014 8:21 AM (in response to iEmelien)First, make sure that your AE is completely up to date. Second, make sure that your system is clean (disk repair and defray and maximum free disk space) then buy as much matched pair memory as you can.

2. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
ECBowen Oct 30, 2014 8:55 AM (in response to iEmelien)Yes you need more ram. 16GB is really the minimum you want for AE especially with any quad core cpu with HT. Also your drive spec would help as well if you could provide that.

6. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
ECBowen Oct 30, 2014 9:27 AM (in response to iEmelien)That means you have 1 drive for the OS and media. You really need a media drive that is not the OS. Right now your 1 HDD is split into 2 partitions from the looks of it. A single mechanical 2.5 drive will not handle editing well in that configuration.

8. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
cc_merchant Oct 30, 2014 9:38 AM (in response to iEmelien)Not only is it partitioned, it also is only a 5400 RPM Seagate Momentus, which is way too slow for editing.
Several rules to adhere to:
- Nothing slower than 7200 RPM.
- Always use multiple physical disks.
- Never partition a physical disk.
- External disk with USB 2.0 are no good.
See Tweakers Page and all the articles there, especially Tweakers Page - External Drives .

ECBowen Oct 31, 2014 10:05 AM (in response to iEmelien)Evo's are ok but the 850 Pro version is better. I suggest that over the Evo.

13. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
cc_merchant Oct 31, 2014 10:07 AM (in response to iEmelien)No to the EVO, yes to the 850 Pro, or the 840 Pro, or even the Corsair M550, but definitely no 840 EVO.

14. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
iEmelien Oct 31, 2014 10:29 AM (in response to cc_merchant)And if you could suggest any harddrive that would be perfect for after effects CS5.5, which one would that be? Or would that also be the 850 Pro?

15. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
ECBowen Nov 3, 2014 7:21 AM (in response to iEmelien)If you mean for the Comps and AE cache then yes an SSD would be ideal and the 850 Pro would be the ideal SSD.

Jacob2130 Nov 22, 2014 9:06 PM (in response to ECBowen)Is the 850 Pro that much better than the 840 EVO? Doesn't the 850 Pro have only like 10 more megabytes per second, with respect to sequential read performance, compared to the 840 EVO? What make the 850 Pro so good?

17. Re: Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?
