Peru Bob Nov 23, 2014 10:22 AM (in response to Lyria)You don't need to render at all if you can preview and use the timeline without any problems:

Bill Gehrke Nov 23, 2014 2:04 PM (in response to Lyria)I cannot remember the last time I had to render, it was probably years ago before I had a good computer.

How is it you don't need to render? I have to render if I want to look at the project without the video jumping multiple frames at a time...
Is it a computer power thing? I run a fairly basic (Government issued) Dell with 4GB of RAM, i5-4570 CPU @ 3.2GHz

R Neil Haugen Nov 23, 2014 6:55 PM (in response to simonray)That computer ... yea, it would be very sluggish. With 4Gb RAM you're barely able to operate, and I'd bet the rest of your system is similarly ... lagging.
A complete listing of OS/CPU/RAM/GPU/vRAM, and also disc layouts .. 1, 2, 3 or more? Internal/external? Such things could help us tell you what to expect. Also, there a LOT of info on the Hardware Forum found through the side-panels to the right of the Overview Page.

Steven L. Gotz Nov 23, 2014 7:19 PM (in response to simonray)Then you probably need to render every time you make a change.
If the government requires you to do a job, they should give you the proper tools.
If they want you to screw boards together, they need to give you a screwdriver, not a pair of scissors.

10. Re: When should I render my videos on premiere?
Lyria Nov 25, 2014 7:43 PM (in response to Lyria)I'm editing a 2 minutes video, it doesn't have any special effects other than some transitions and some basic CC. It was working fine, I added the VO and all went to HELL. This project has crashed 8 times. It's ridiculous.
I have a Mac Mini I5 with 16 GB of memory.I have worked with Avid and only rendered project when it was time to export. I no longer have access to Avid.
I'm somewhat new to Premiere- have done 5 other projects on it before, one being an 16 minutes with no problems. The only way I can edit this video is by rendering, besides, every time it crashes that big fat red line is across my timeline.
The voice over was done in garage band. I have two audio tracks one for music and VO.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
