1. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
Jacob Bugge Nov 23, 2014 9:53 AM (in response to courtsmayers)Mayers,
You may:
1) Create the inner or outer triangle shape;
2) Object>Path>Offset Path by the desired width of the open triangle shape;
3) Select both and Object>Compound Path>Make;
4) Select it along with a copy of the image and Objéct>Clipping Mask>Make;
5) Move the Clipping Mask (and/or the Direct Selected copy image) about to fit.
Instead of 1) - 3), you may also:
1) Create a triangle with the desired width as Stroke Weight (based on the middle of the width);
2) Object>Path>Outline Stroke.
Instead of 3) you may also Pathfinder>Minus front.

2. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
jdanek Nov 23, 2014 9:59 AM (in response to courtsmayers)Do you have to use Illustrator? The reason why I ask is because the entire image composition can be done in Photoshop as well. In a sense of efficiency, less in Illustrator, more in Photoshop. The reason is you'd have to duplicate the existing background image for a smaller shape. Cutesy, but in retrospect, the image should be Placed in Illustrator as one image. Another option could be to crop the original image down to just the area of the triangle and then mask that in Illustrator.

3. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
imagecollection Nov 23, 2014 2:01 PM (in response to jdanek)I second the Photoshop call.
Pixel based art is much better done in photoshop.
I like to draw my paths in Illustrator. I then just copy and paste them to photoshop.

4. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
Jacob Bugge Nov 23, 2014 2:55 PM (in response to courtsmayers)Mayers,
As far as I can see, there are two different images already, and even if it were only one, the masked top image goes much further down beneath the coastline, so there is no way to cut it down to anything like one copy of the background image, whichever application(s) you use.

5. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
imagecollection Nov 23, 2014 3:11 PM (in response to Jacob Bugge)once the triangle has been copied it has been scaled up by about 155%.
so it has come from that image.

6. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
Jacob Bugge Nov 23, 2014 4:11 PM (in response to imagecollection)I believe you are right about the scaling, imagecollection.
However, I also believe that the school project is meant for Illy.

7. Re: Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
imagecollection Nov 23, 2014 4:21 PM (in response to Jacob Bugge)would be silly for a school project to be that strict in using software like that.
like saying you need to do cad drawing with microsoft paint, or dig a post hole with an axe.
also as stated in the original question:
Also I use photoshop and illustrator cs6

8. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
Jacob Bugge Nov 24, 2014 3:10 AM (in response to imagecollection)imagecollection,
It may be silly, or it may be designed to teach what is silly, or what is possible using the respective applications (in some cases you have access to only one), instead of just relying on hearsay
Apart from that, as we have seen here many times, school projects are known to sometimes be silly, as am I.

9. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
imagecollection Nov 24, 2014 5:23 AM (in response to Jacob Bugge)I'll concede that. I remember some quite silly school projects.
And I guess I also use things in ways not intended.
My cnc machine is based on a diy router... and other scrap materials
and I brew beer with a heat exchanger cobbled together from a $5 dollar kettle a cheap 10L soup pot and a length of copper tube...

10. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
Jacob Bugge Nov 24, 2014 6:46 AM (in response to imagecollection)imagecollection,
But far from silly.
The first image reminds me of the saying about trust, and the way the second one shows the way round (literally) the lack of an elbow pipe fitting may seem to reflect the extra effort of using Illy in the lack of Photoshop in the case at hand.

13. Re: HELP! How can I recreate this triangle image?
imagecollection Nov 24, 2014 12:06 PM (in response to John Mensinger)its just a cheap usb dongle temp sensor. its plugged into the laptop directly above your circle. the software it came with is terrible, but it does log the temp over time.

Jacob Bugge Dec 2, 2014 7:22 AM (in response to courtsmayers)For my part you are welcome, Mayers.
As you can see, your thread has had its own life in your absence, and most of us have learned something.
