2. Re: Photoshop CC 2014 running out of memory?
aca95pks Nov 23, 2014 6:58 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)So according to Photoshop:
Available RAM: 7126MB
Ideal Range: 3919-5130MB
Let Photoshop Use: 6199MB (87%)
Optimized for Default:
It's an ATI Radeon 7850 with latest AMD drivers
Scratch discs I've got a Samsung 850 Pro, currently using C: (63GB free) and G: (122GB free), both are on the SSD.
The thing is if I load 6 images everything is good, 7 images and Windows throws a fit. I have no Swap file either, but I didn't previously.

3. Re: Photoshop CC 2014 running out of memory?
c.pfaffenbichler Nov 23, 2014 7:08 AM (in response to aca95pks)I’m no Windows user but if I understand correctly "C:" is usual the start-up drive.
Using that as the primary Scratch Dick would be a bad idea.
How much free space is left after opening the first 6 images?
As for general trouble-shooting:

6. Re: Photoshop CC 2014 running out of memory?
aca95pks Nov 24, 2014 10:34 AM (in response to Alex-the-Cat)I've ended up reducing the amount photoshop can use, also reduces the history states etc and it seems to be behaving now. You'd think it'd cope with it itself instead of Windows throwing a bit of a hissy fit.

That's part of your mistake. Windows really, really needs a swapfile.

8. Re: Photoshop CC 2014 running out of memory?
aca95pks Nov 24, 2014 12:53 PM (in response to Chris Cox)It really doesn't. There are odd, badly written apps that require it. Windows does not.
My work PC has 32GB RAM and no swap file and I run everything from Photoshop CC, Flash, multiple instances of Eclipse/Java/Tomcat. Not once has it complained.
At home, previous to my rebuild and post here, I'd been running with no swap file for well over 2 years. Not one complaint with 8GB RAM.

Chris Cox Nov 24, 2014 1:02 PM (in response to aca95pks)I'm not sure who misinformed you about that issue -- but Windows really does need a swapfile to run smoothly, no matter how much RAM you have.
