1. Re: not happy with XI- unable to make simple non techy workable useable
Rave Nov 22, 2014 9:49 PM (in response to notimpressed-xi)Hi,
1. To disable autosave of a pdf to temporary file, go to Edit> Preferences> Documents> 'Save Settings'> Uncheck the option 'Automatically save document changes to temporary file...'
2. What error do you get when you try to view the pdf's from an email? Does it happen with all the pdfs? Are you abel to view the pdf's on the browser?
Regards,
Rave

Thank you for taking personal time, to answer.
I can view a pdf from my flash drive. I can also view a pdf in an email, from the public library computer with their loaded versions of various software.
Prior to XI Adobe, I had NO trouble viewing pdf attached to an email.
Jeff
have a nice sunday whereever you are

3. Re: not happy with XI- unable to make simple non techy workable useable
notimpressed-xi Nov 23, 2014 8:43 AM (in response to Rave)i totally UNinstalled Adobe Reader from my computer, was just a nuisance. XI is not good. especially for old D620 ONLY computer non techy people.
Adobe needs to know, that average humans need to make and read pdf's, not just tech geniuses.

my yahoomail and gmail- both will NOT let me view ANY pdf files attached to an emailYou are not giving any details. What is your operating system? How do you view "yahoomail" and "gmail" - in a browser? What browser?
What exactly means "will NOT let me"; do you get any error messages, or what exactly happens?
P.S. I do not have any problems with Reader XI on any of my systems.

6. Re: not happy with XI- unable to make simple non techy workable useable
notimpressed-xi Nov 26, 2014 10:22 PM (in response to pwillener)simple. I have D620 Dell. laptop. 7 years old. I use either Firefox for gmail or yahoomail, or I use Safari but most often Firefox.
I will have to re read the message, but it will NOT open ANY pdf file attached to ANY email in either yahoomail or in gmail. period.
it will not. that is that.
Jeff
used to prior to the XI version. that is not good. thus I UNinstalled Adobe reader, next time I attempt to open and read an email pdf attachment, I will figure out other methods to do that since Adobe XI reader is of zero value for my D620 or my browswer.
not built for a slow internet connection or for D620 Dell I gather. just for super genius techies.

7. Re: not happy with XI- unable to make simple non techy workable useable
pwillener Nov 26, 2014 11:11 PM (in response to notimpressed-xi)I don't know Safari, but I know that Firefox (since version 19) uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin.
To change the PDF viewer in Firefox see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
P.S. I just made a little test: I sent a PDF to my Gmail account, then opened Gmail in Firefox (33.1.1). Gmail gave me the option to
- view the PDF online
- download the PDF to my disk
- save the PDF to Google Drive
When trying to view the PDF online, Gmail presented it in its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe PDF plugin.

Uninstall XI; download and install X (if that was your previous version).
Older versions can be found on the Adobe FTP site ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/
But since you don't seem to use the Adobe Reader plugin, I don't think it will make any difference.

notimpressed-xi Nov 28, 2014 9:24 PM (in response to pwillener)so genius. then why, did i not ever have any trouble viewing a pdf attached to an email in gmail or yahoomail- prior to

12. Re: not happy with XI- unable to make simple non techy workable useable
pwillener Nov 28, 2014 9:42 PM (in response to notimpressed-xi)I don't know anything about yahoo, but as I have outlined in my earlier post, Gmail does not use the Adobe Reader plugin at all. So I do not know why you have problems viewing PDF attachments.
When I view an email message with a PDF attachment in Gmail, I get presented with
which lets me (a) view the document online, (b) download it, (c) save to Google Drive.
When I select to view the document online I see
which is not the Firefox PDF.js plugin, and not the Adobe Reader plugin, but Google's own PDF viewer.
So whatever trouble you have with Gmail PDF attachments, it has nothing to do with Adobe.

pwillener Nov 28, 2014 9:44 PM (in response to notimpressed-xi)P.S. and if you didn't have any troubles previously is probably because Google changed something in Gmail.

notimpressed-xi Nov 30, 2014 7:11 AM (in response to pwillener)Pat
Note. do not like at all, gmail or ymail- but aol and hotmail not a lot better. Since I do not have a separate/one I contract for- internet service connection (comes with the place I am at), I cannot get the email accounts that come with a paid for internet connection service.
