This morning (11-13-14), upon booting my computer, I received an ordinary update request from Adobe FlashPlayer. I get these pretty frequently. Normally, they update quickly and work just fine. So I clicked Update. Update completed successfully. However, now my Flash Player is completely gone.
So I followed the manual install instructions. Downloaded
install_flashplayer15x32_mssd_aaa_aih.exe
I doubleclicked the file as instructed, and it installed successfully, according to the on-screen messages. However, when I try to do anything that requires Flash Player, Firefox still claims that there is no Flash Player installed.
One of the troubleshooting instructions on the Adobe Flash Player website said to download the uninstaller for Flash Player and then reinstall. I did that. Exact same result. Flash Player is not installed and does not exist. No error messages. Everything claims to be successful, but the player just doesn't seem to exist.
Next attempt: Downloaded the full 17.0 MB file (install_flash_player.exe), download completes successfully. Install Successful. Same result. --- no Flash Player.
I attempted the install instructions again trying a couple different things including 1) shutting down all other programs during the install process and 2) rebooting the computer after the install process. None of these additional instructions helped. Same result. No Flash Player.
I use Firefox for everything. So I tried IE just for fun. Oddly, Flash Player in IE works fine. *sigh* Flash Player for Firefox still does not.
Any suggestion are appreciated.
System:
OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1
Browser: Firefox 33.1

Detah

It sounds like you're getting the right installer.
In Firefox, if you go to about:plugins, do you see "Shockwave Flash" listed there?
If you are, it's probably something else -- like you're running a plug-in to block JavaScript (NoScript, etc), which interferes with sites' ability to detect the presence of Flash Player.

Hello
No, "Shockwave Flash" is not there anymore. It used to be. Now there is something new there called "Shockwave for Director 12.1.4.154". I do not see any way to uninstall that plugin or examine its settings.
I did not add any plug-ins to block javascripts (or plugins of any other kind) in the last 2 years. Nothing has changed except the installation of the Flash Player upgrade.

That's really odd.
Do a complete uninstall of Flash Player using the guide here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
Reboot your computer.
Install again using our offline installer:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player.exe
If it still isn't showing up, please give me the contents of:
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashInstall.log
The newest stuff is at the bottom and is marked with the date and time. Feel free to just copy and paste the relevant section in a reply here, if that's easier.

I followed your instructions. Got exactly the same results as before. Firefox thinks Flash is not installed or does not exist.
As requestsed, here is the contents of

I forwarded this over to the folks on the installer team, and they noticed that the logs indicate that our attempt to delete the registry keys for Flash Player fail during uninstallation.
Here's the analysis:
For this particular issue, on the first and second uninstall attempt, I'm seeing the following:
0034
1037 = kMErrorRegistryDelete
5 = ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED
Then on the install attempt, there is the following:
0036
1035 = kMErrorRegistryWrite
5 = ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED
Which seems to indicate a permissions issue with the registry entry that contains the installed Flash Player version info.
Can you please ask for the following?
Screenshot of the value of the registry entry listed above. It should contain the info on the version installed (see attached sample).
Screenshot of the permissions (for all users) of the registry entry listed above (see attached sample).
Here's how you do this:
Go to Start > Run and type regedit
Hit Enter
The registry editor should open.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@adobe.com\FlashPlayer
Take a screenshot
Right Click and choose Permissions
For each user listed, please select it and take a screenshot
Post them all here.
At that point, you can probably just delete this key and attempt to do another uninstall/reinstall.

Please find attached the screenshots of the registry location that you asked for.

I assume you have Administrative rights on the machine since you're the only user. You *should* have permission to overwrite this key (as per the "Full Control" entry on the Administrators group).
You might want to set a system restore point before modifying the registry as insurance:
Once you've done that, go ahead and try to delete this key. It will get recreated by the installer.
Once the key is deleted, please try doing another uninstall/reinstall. If it doesn't solve the issue (it should), please give us the install logs again so that we can see what changed.

I've now tried dozens of things. Cannot get the registry entry to delete.
I keep getting the following error:
Error Deleting Key
Cannot delete @adobe.com/FlashPlayer: Error while deleting key.
OK
I logged in as administrator. Same result. I logged in as network administrator. Same result. If permissions is the problem, logging in as administrator is not the solution.

Well, it looks like we've identified the immediate problem. The entry is probably damaged, since it's clear that you should have permission to remove it.
I feel obligated to add the disclaimer here that modifying your registry can lead to data loss, and other unintended side-effects. Your operating system is not working in the way that it should be working at this point, so while we can try and fix it, making good backups in the event that something catastrophic happens is wise. It's also not a great sign that your registry is corrupted in the first place. I usually take that as a warning sign that I need to make sure my backups are in order, just in case my disk is about to go.
Anyway, there are third-party tools available that might allow you obliterate this registry entry; however, I can't vouch for any of them.
If you can get rid of the key, I would reboot and then retry the uninstall/reinstall routine. If we're still having registry problems after that, we're pretty far out in the weeds. If the registry is really corrupt, this might be a sign that you can't read/write reliably to it in its current state. At that point, there aren't a lot of options beyond wiping the machine and reinstalling everything.

Not sure if you ever got your problem fixed. Do you have iTunes installed? I was having same issue. I came across this from UCSF.edu
"Due to security issues in older versions, Apple has updated the web plug-in blocking mechanism to disable all versions prior to Flash Player 15.0.0.223 and 13.0.0.252.
Advanced Users: For additional information on blocked web plug-ins refer to http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202681.

No. I do not have iTunes (installed). I don't think that is related to my issue.
I am still working on solving this issue. Had lots of pressing job duties to do the last 10 days. Just yesterday I turned my attention back to this issue. I am not able to delete the registry entries that Mr Clark suggested. That appears to be the source of my specific problem. My IT people said that everyone who uses Firefox here is having the same issue. It is still unresolved. One of my IT guys said, that he thinks our issue will be resolved when the next Flash Player patch comes out. That seems illogical to me. If the problem were on Flash's side, more people would be presenting this problem. It seems to be only in our institution with our computer builds. That leads me to believe the issue lies somewhere within our particular computer settings & (security) programs. As an aside, I have never experienced regedit to refuse to delete a registry key. On the contrary, regedit always lets you delete stuff that you SHOULD NOT delete, at your own peril. So I am still looking into this. It may be a permissions issue as someone suggested. But the permissions display in the menus show that there should not be a permissions conflict. Still investigating. I will post when I have more info or a solution.

My hunch was that the registry entries are corrupted, which is why I asked to see if you could delete them. If you have Administrative rights, you should be able to blow those keys away if things are working normally. I doubt that everyone's registry became identically corrupted simultaneously. I can't think of many other things that would cause this. If it's truly the *entire* organization, it might be worth checking to see if there were any recent changes to your domain's Group Security Policies that could be responsible.
You might try rebooting into Safe Mode and attempting to delete the keys again. Aside from that, I don't have any good recommendations.
I'm not sure why they think that the next update will resolve this, but next Tuesday is Patch Tuesday. If it *does* get you past this, I'd be really interested in getting another copy of your install logs to pass along to the installer team.

Update [still no success]
I rebooted in Safe Mode with Networking. SHOCK! Regedit actually allowed me to DELETE the registry entry:

Then I followed the rest of the uninstall directions. 1) ran uninstaller. 2) restarted computer. 3) downloaded current (12-9-14) installer file, install_flashplayer16x32_mssd_aaa_aih.exe from Flash site. 4) closed Firefox browser. 6) doubleclicked installer file. It ran successfully.
Went to Flash Player website and checked status of Flash on my machine. It says Your Flash Version : Not installed.
I am going to conclude that deleting the registry entry is not the source of my problem. I honestly no idea what the problem is now. I really thought this was my problem.
One thing that is really odd, is that I no longer have Shockwave in my plugins. If Flash says it installed, then shouldn't it have put Shockwave into the plugins? I have attached a copy of my Firefox Plugins page.

Just for fun, I just went back to the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\
The @adobe.com/Flash Player entry is indeed gone. But there is still an entry for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@adobe.com/ShockwavePlayer
I guess I dont fully understand how Shockwave and Flash are distinct. But it seems to me that if Shockwave does not appear in the plugins list, then the registry entry should not be there. Is this just a remnant that did not get cleaned up in the registry? Does Flash check this registry entry when determining if Flash is installed? I have attached a copy of my ShockwavePlayer registry entry.

Way back in the early '90s, when pets.com and Webvan were alive, both Flash Player and Shockwave Player were owned by Shockwave. They changed hands through various mergers and acquisitions over the years, and now we're left with references to Shockwave Flash and Shockwave Player, even though they're Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Player at this point. The problem is that once you register those components in the browsers, it's basically written in stone, so it's baggage left over from when the technologies were originally deployed, and it's super confusing.
Anyway, Shockwave Player is distinct from Flash Player. My guess is that the install will be failing on something else now, since there are no keys to delete at the step where things were failing. If you can post your logs, we can take a look.
On a side note, if you haven't done it already, it might be a good time to run the disk repair utility, just as an easy step towards making sure things are working as intended.

The new log indicates that everything installed successfully. Out of curiosity, do you have Opera installed? Just wondering if you see Flash Player there, since they share the same plugin.
I'm not sure why Firefox is failing to detect Flash. Either Firefox is not able to read that registry key (SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@adobe.com/FlashPlayer), or we think it got written, but failed silently or something. You should be able to validate that the key exists and that the data points to a file that exists at this point.
If we're looking at more symptoms of disk corruption, then it's possible that the Firefox profile, or Firefox itself is also damaged.
It's pretty easy to create a new profile as for troubleshooting, and should rule out that issue:
Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles | Firefox Help
A clean install of Firefox might be worthwhile if that doesn't work. At least we've ruled out a lot of potential problems. Again, running the disk repair utility before you reinstall might be wise, as you'll know that you're installing with the disk in a good state.

I ran disk defragmenter yesterday after I posted my logs. It was 0% fragmentation before I ran the defrag and it was 0% fragmentation after I ran defrag. There were no errors found on the disk.
I have never had Opera installed on this machine. Although since the Flash issue appeared, I have since installed Chrome. Flash Player seems to function normally on Chrome.
I am not sure what you are wanting me to do with the Firefox Profile Manager. Am I supposed to delete my old Firefox profile and create a new one? There are lots of instructions on the link you provided. Do you want me to follow all of them, including Resetting to Factory Settings and Create a New Profile?

I want to chime in and say that this problem is exactly like what I encountered:
Flashplayer install fails silently for firefox, Win 8.1
I am eagerly awaiting an update. I do not think my system is corrupt, my computer is new and I have had no problems with it.
