Uninstalling Flash Player 13.0.0.206 after Installing 15.0.0.223?

This is really weird. Maybe I am missing something. I installed the new version of Flash Player,15.0.0.223, and it installed correctly but, the uninstaller did not remove version 13.0.0.206. I tried to uninstall it manually and it only worked on the local machine but, when a user logs into the domain it still shows that it is installed. When I log in as the user after giving them local admin rights, I still cannot get it uninstalled. In fact it comes up with a dialogue box telling me that I need admin rights in order to uninstall it. Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody have an answer for this? I am stuck.

Installing a new Flash Player version should automatically uninstall any older versions. Sometimes the old modules may be in use; in this case a Windows restart will delete the old version completely.

If that does not remove the old version, can you post the contents of the FlashInstall.log file in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

My understanding is that the "5" here is an error code indicating that the uninstaller didn't have permission to remove these files.

If you've downloaded and are running the newest available installer, then it's probably that the registry keys associated with Flash have become corrupted.

Uninstall Flash Player | Windows

You can definitely try blowing away C:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\ and then retrying an uninstall/reinstall, but I think you're still going to see those registry entries.

You can try deleting them from regedit, but I think you'll probably get permission denied, even with admin rights:

\Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHIINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia

Naturally, all of the good advice about backing up, setting restore points and you're taking your data and/or system stability into your own hands is in effect when editing the registry.

Thank you. I pretty much did as you said with a few exceptions and I was able to uninstall version 13 from all of my machines. I blew away the flash directory and the registry key. Then made the end user an admin. I was able to uninstall and then re-install with the latest version. Thanks again and have a happy holiday.

Thank you for your reply. The steps I had to take were as follows.

1. I had to make the end user an admin.

2. Uninstalled version 15 first then I tried to uninstall 13. The

uninstall for 13 did not work under the user.

3. I then logged into my account and deleted the folder

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. Sometimes this worked and sometimes it

didn't.

4. Then I deleted the key

5. I deleted everything out of the Recycle bin then shut down.

6. When the PC rebooted I then logged in as the user tried to delete

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash once again.

7. I uninstalled version 15 first then 13.

8. I installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.

It worked differently on each PC but the concept was the same. I had to

delete the registry key in order to get version 13 uninstalled. If you had

not given this idea, I would not have been able to do this. Thank you so

much for the help.
