Has anyone found a way to get the Exit button on the Captivate 8 toolbar to work in the browser window? I saw that it didn't work in previous versions of Captivate. Is there a way to get it to work in Captivate 8? Or, is Adobe working on a fix to get the button to work?
Yes, the close X does work 100% of the time. That's because the browser itself is just a window in the operating system. And you are commanding the window to close.
And you might find yourself asking why that would work while the Exit button fails. And it would be that it's a security issue. Security prevents the window from closing because if a web site was nefarious, it could actually trap you by making changes and quickly closing the window and preventing you from browsing elsewhere.

Hi there
Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the exit button. Therefore there is nothing Adobe can do to fix it.
It's a browser issue and whether the exit button works is entirely dependent on how the browser window presenting the Captivate output was opened.
If you disbelieve that, consider this. What the exit button is doing is the exact same thing JavaScript does with the "Window.Close()" command. So I highly encourage you to click the link below and note how many issues were found.

Thanks. So, is there a solution on how to get it to work?

Sure! You simply need to ensure that what you create is always opened in a "Child" window.
One way to accomplish it is to publish as Flash using the "Full Screen" option. You will then get two HTML files. One with "fs" (full screen) as part of the file name and the other to launch the Captivate in a normal way. Open the full screen file and you see a link that opens a child window.

I tried this and unfortunately, the Exit on the toolbar still does not work. The Close X on the browser has always worked fine (even without using a child window). However, I was hoping to get the Exit on the Captivate 8 toolbar to work.
If we can't get it to work, is there a way to hide it so it doesn't display on the toolbar?

It's simple to turn off the Exit button. Just click Project > Skin Editor and clear the Close checkbox.
