Why does my Search feature in WebHelp shows hyper-linked letters instead of a 'search' field?

My local config

Win7

IE11

RoboHelp 11 to WebHelp output

When I generate my latest output, the search feature opens with a hyper-linked alphabet in the search string field, and a bunch of linked numbers and letters in the results pane.

Selection of any item opens a sub-set of more linked items. How to I get back to plain old text searching?

And how do I get an image file small enough to add here?

Thanks for any help.

Hi there

One of two things has probably happened.

You may have enabled the "Section 508" output option.

Or you may have enabled the "Pure HTML" output option.

With either possibility, you need to examine the properties of the Single Source Layout recipe.

Oh you guys are good.

Yes - Pure HTML was selected in the build profile. I should have seen that.

In typical fashion, I now have my search back but have lost the TOC lol.

This one I can fix myself but I thank you for the help.

Best.

Anna.

Uh-oh. I spoke too soon.

First an apology. In my initial post I said I am using RH 11. In fact, while all of my original projects are in RH11, this is a legacy project still in RH9. Sincerest apologies - brain on autopilot.

Follow-up

De-selecting Pure HTML and selecting DHTML in the webhelp build profile fixed how the Search feature appears in the output, that is, linked alphanumerics in the search box and results pane are no longer occurring, but additional problems so occur:

  1. Searching an actual term does nothing; no response, no error, no data return.
  2. TOC is now blank. No placeholders, nothing.

This is my local output, before I check it in or add it to the deployment package. I have generated earlier versions of this project and it did display normally in the past.

I have tried the following with no resolution.

  1. Generating to a new output folder.
  2. Various combinations of settings in the build profile.
  3. Removed and re-added the build Window in project set-up.
  4. Emptied the cache.
  5. Imported .isf settings from an earlier, working version of the project.
  6. Deleted cookies.
  7. Deleted legacy .cpd file.
  8. Checked whdata, whgdata and whxdata folders for required content. (The whgdata folder contains multiples of each file type, 223 files for whlstf - is that expected?)

I'm at a bit of a loss now.

Ideas, oh great ones?

Tks.

Update

Generating the SalesBuilder sample project in RH9 produces the same results - no TOC, Index or Glossary content and the Search feature is dead.

Do I have a corrupted registry?

Captiv8r, I was right - you de man.

I don't know what specifically fixed my multiple issues, but from your link I installed Adoberobohelp901Patch.zip.

(While I was there I found IE11Fix_RH9.zip - cheers to you wvanweelden.)

All is looking good now. Search and TOC are behaving themselves at last.

I read this forum from time to time and usually find my fix from existing threads but this time I had a 'seemingly-not-covered' issue and the help was fast and accurate.

Always grateful.

Anna.

Moderator - I answered from my email instead of directly in the discussion and have accidentally posted my contact numbers.

Can you suppress that info please?

Thanks.

Hi there

Perhaps you need to install an update. As browsers evolve, RoboHelp often has to be updated to keep up with the changes and make WebHelp continue to work properly on newer versions of the browsers.

Check the link below.

@aviationanna – images can be added to forum posts by using the camera icon in the web interface – was that what you meant?

Hello and thanks for the response.

Yes I saw the wee camera but it's not 'take a snapshot', it's 'upload a file' and every format I tried was too big.

Probably just me.

Thanks again.

Anna.
