This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.

If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.

Mac OS X version 10.7.4SafariI don't know why a password is needed.  I start the process of installing Flash Player and I get a box which says permission is needed and lists my name and under that asks for my password.  I tried my Mac or Apple password and that is not it.  It appears that I have a password associated with Adobe but I have no memory of creating one (though I might have at some point) and cannot remember what it is.  The install process will not continue w/o the password.  I have not been able to find any option allowing me to say I forgot my password so it could be e-mailed or otherwise provided to me or somehow allow me to reset a password.  Got any advice?

The password requirement is from OS X, not Flash Player.  This should be the same password you used when you setup your computer's user account.  This Apple doc might help:

I had the same problem.  I typed in thousands of passwords and in the process accidentally changed my Apple password.  I was very frustrated.  But after reading how pixelmix721 saying she didn't remember creating one either, I thought, "mmmmmmmm, I don't remember creating one either."  So I again tried to install adobe and just hit "enter" at the password box and WALAAAA, it worked!  Just enter thru the password section and begin your download.

If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.

If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

I have made an account, reset password 3 times and it will still not let me download the flash player. It is frustrating because I have tried to download it several times over several days. When I enter my password I make sure CAPS LOCK is off and I type it carefully. I tried no password and nothing is working still....
