Adobe Digital Editions won't run on Windows XP Media Edition laptop

I have tried everything listed on the Adobe site but whenever I try to install Digital Editions I get the error message saying "Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  How can it get it to run???

I had a similar problem with an older computer a couple of years ago.  It was solved by installing ADE 1.72.

Save the setup.exe to your hard drive then run it.
