I am having what seems to be the exact same problem, and I cannot find a solution no matter what I do.  For weeks I have been trying everything I can find over and over. I have no respect for the Adobe business, leaving us without any recourse when a customer comes to a complete dead end when trying to solve the problem.  I cannot open other sites without the upgrade.

Adobe does not provide free technical support for products that it offers free of charge.  There is an option to pay for support, or to use the user-to-user forums, which are also provided free of charge.

The password prompt you're describing is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.

If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.

If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.

If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

I tried my Adobe password, and when it didn't work I reset it.  It still didn't work.  I tried my Apple password,  same thing: didn't work, reset it, still didn't work.  I tried my Apple Administrator password, and the same thing: didn't work, reset it, still didn't work.  I am beginning to wonder if the system is experiencing so many changes from me that there is some kind of automatic halt to the operation on the basis of possible hacking.

If that doesn't work, it might be time to take a trip down to the Apple store to get some expert help.
