I'm confused. I am trying to open an InDesign file sent from an external company. I have CS6 installed. When I try and open the file I get the following error message. What is CS8.0??? I thought the versions went from CS6 straight to CC???

That's an incorrect error message based on some faulty programming. CS8 is

actually CC2014 and you'll either need that or the CC user will have to save

it back via IDML.

There is no such thing as a 2015 version of InDesign. Please check the ACTUAL version you have in ABOUT, don't assume.

Ok, this means the file was last saved with InDesign CC2014 (which is reported as CS 8.0).  It may have been started in CS6, but someone edited it in CC2014.

CC2014 is two versions newer than CS6. CS6 was released in 2011.

If you are a CC subscriber you can have both CS6 and CC2014 at the same time.

If someone gets the message in CS6 that a file was created in CS7 or CS8 or in the future any other CS version, he should update his version to the latest available CS6 update, because this error message was corrected in later updates to that program.

Did you read this thread? CS8 is CC 2014 (version 10). The error message should be corrected if you update CS6 to the latest patch.

‌Do you have a CC subscription? If so your subscription CS6 has a conversion tool. Otherwise no, you always need the version it was saved from.
