Getting Mic to work

Trying to use a new mic with Captivate. I can record from the Mic on my MS Soundrecorder but I cannot seem record to Captivate. When I test the Mic levels the recording bars do not have any motion. I am using Captivate 2, HP DV9000 series laptop.

Have you checked your settings for recording audio?? The reason I am asking is that if you are in C3 and are set to record system sounds then there will be no pick up on an external mike and I am assuming that there might be a similar issue with C2.
