301 Redirect/Need a bit of detailed help

Hello, I'm going to add a non-www to my site in google webmaster tools and read that I also need to do a 301 redirect. Can someone tell me in detail, how to do this? I'm sorry I'm very new to this and am not sure what to put in each box. I think I found out to go to URL Redirect in my customer portal under the site I want to redirect, but I'm not sure what to put in the boxes.
