Help with inserting new images

Hello to all,

This is my first time here although I've been using RH for a while. I have a problem with new images I can insert them and I can visualize them in RH and also the TH preview but I cannot on the output. Simply the generation of the webhelp doesn't seem to take the new images because I cannot find them in the output image folder as I can with the older ones.

I'm using RH X5 with a template. All the images are on a folder called image on the root project. This images are visualized perfectly but the new ones I created can't simply be seen. I check size and properties and they all ok, gif files with 96 dpi with the correct size and 8 bit. I even tried to make a copy of a used image working ok, renamed it and used it. That doesn't work either.

Tried it out on 2 other computers both with RH X5 and sames problem occurs. I'm assuming somehow the project isn't detecting that new images are added. I really need help on this because I tried almost everything without any result.

We had that problem once with RH5. My project was version controlled. I did the following things....not sure which one specifically solved my problem, so you are welcome to try them all.

1. Deleted the image from the topic and added it again.
2. Readjusted the size of the image while it's in the topic.
3. Deleted the image from version control and added it again.

Thanks,
K

Thanks for the tips but I tried most of them.

The version control one was the new one for me but I don't think I have any version control on the project how can I check that out?

Also I run a report of unused files and those images are there I wonder why since I have them on the topic.

Sounds like you're pasting them in, instead of using the RH Insert command. Rh, therefore, has no idea that the image is even in the project! Try deleting one of them, then selecting Insert > Image to add the graphic.

Good luck,
Leon

I tried that out already a million of times.

About the files not used it was my mistaken I add a copy of those images in the root folder. Resuming they don't happer as unused files anymore.

Some more information. I created a new topic placed 2 pics there one already in the project and one of the ones that was giving me problems. Run a production and none of them show up looks like the project is locked somehow to add new pics but I can add new text normally without any problems.

Really helpless here I don't think I will solve this silly bug.

You might try adding one of these images to the Baggage Files folder (kinda like hitting the sometimes-muleish RH across the forehead with a 2 X 4 to get its attention).

See if that helps.

Good luck,
Leon

Grippen:

For the last test that you did, can you check the HTML for the <img> tag in the generated topic and confirm that it is correct AND that the images actually exist in the folder to which the <img src> is pointing?

Thanks,

Yap I checked that also html code is ok.

But I managed to solve the problem if not totally at least as a workaround I will see when I need to add more pics.

This is what I did.

Created a new project and closed Robohelp. Copied all template, images and topic files, basically all files expect the specific project ones, e.g., <project_name>.ali, .cpd etc......

Then I had to identify which of these files have the settings fro TOC, index, glossary and MAP Ids. These files are the *.ali, .glo, .hhc and .hhk. Replaced the ones from the new project by the ones from the project giving me problems.

Made a production and everything is ok now. One of these files somehow was locking the possibility of adding more pics.

Grippen,

You say,

I created a new topic placed 2 pics there one already in the project and one of the ones that was giving me problems.

What I hope you meant to say is,

-- I created a new topic.
-- In the RoboHelp command menu, I selected Insert | Image
-- I clicked the folder icon at upper right and navigated to a directory outside the project directory.
-- I selected an image in that folder and clicked Open, then OK..
-- RoboHelp placed the image in the topic at the cursor location.

You might also have this experience:

-- A message appeared asking,
Overwrite "C:\[path to project directory]\imagename.gif"?
-- I clicked Yes.

If that's how you did it, here's another thoughtZ:
Some of us have had problems with image file formats other than .jpg and .gif.

I avoid, for example, .bmp, .png, .psp, and .psd.

I've heard that .png files will work if they have been saved as a flattened image.

Good luck,

Harvey

Grippen you wrote: Yap I checked that also html code is ok.

So, you are saying that in the generated WebHelp, the img src is correctly pointing to the images (that do exist) in the folder, but the browser is not rendering the HTML correctly? Hmmm...

Thanks,
