Installing Flash Player on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit IE closed but still requests closing

Windows 7 Professional is using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600 with update 11.0.15.  Installing Flash Player 16.0.0.305. Starts installing and stops at 72%, advising that Internet Explorer needs to be closed and then try again.  In Task Manager IE is not open.  Tried going to the Active X download and ended up at the same error.  We installed Windows 365, if that impacts the installation, though it has not stopped any other installations done after installing 365.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Hi Christine,

Even though IE is closed, it might still have a handle to a Flash Player file in memory.  Please check Task Manager and look for a "FlashUtil...exe" process.  If it's there go ahead and kill it.

I was able to get Flash Player to install, however, it is still not

recognized as being installed. When I go to the website that I needed it

for, I get the message that I need Flash with a link to the download

site. Opening the document on my PC that required it fails as well.

On the PC, I did go to Tools > Manage Add Ons and the Shockwave Flash

Object is Enabled. Is there another step I should take?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Christine,

Have you checked to see if ActiveX Filtering is enabled, Internet Explorer "ActiveX Filtering" - Turn On or Off - Windows 7 Help Forums?

What do you mean by "Opening the document on my PC that required it fails as well."?  What is the file extension on the document you are attempting to view?

The document I mentioned was just a file, so please disregard that comment.

I am trying to do testing online, and the program does not recognize the

latest FlashPlayer is installed. It advised to uninstall and reinstall

because there may have been a problem with installation. Of course, when I

try I get the same message for Internet Explorer. I verified that Active X

is not checked and the application is not showing in Task Manager.

Any further suggestions?

Thank you.

First, confirm that ActiveX Filtering is configured to allow Flash content:

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968

Internet Explorer 11 introduces a number of changes both to how the browser identifies itself to remote web servers, and to how it processes JavaScript intended to target behaviors specific to Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this means that content on some sites will be broken until the content provider changes their site to conform to the new development approach required by modern versions of IE.

You can try to work around these issues by using Compatibility View:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11

If that is too inconvenient, using Google Chrome may be a preferable alternative.
