ADE crashes every single time I try to transfer a book to my kobo ereader. I just downloaded it. What gives?

I just bought a Kobo ereader, and followed the instructions to transfer books from google play to it via Adobe Digital Edition.  I just downloaded ADE, so it's the most recent edition.   ADE crashes every single time I try to transfer a book. Google says this is an adobe problem.  The whole point of buying this ereader was to read my google play books, as they are not supported on kindle.  Anyone else experience this?

If you just installed ADE 4.0, you may wish to uninstall it and try an older version.  We've observed a number of stability issues with 4.0 on both Mac and Windows platforms.

Either 3.0 or 2.0.1 can be installed here:
