Hello,
We have silent auto updates for flash on our laptops. It has worked for previous versions of 16. We are currently on 16.0.0.305. Now our users are getting prompted to update since 17 is available. It is not silent auto updating from 16 to 17 though. Do you have to do a fresh install of 17 and then the silent update will work again for the forthcoming versions of 17? If so, that's not a very good way for it to work. Seems like it should be seamless and keep updating even with version changes.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Hi,
During loud releases, users will eventually get an update notification to update as there is no way to disable Notification Updates, even when opted into Background Updates, unless you host the Background Update resources locally. Since you license Flash Player, and use Silent Auto-update, I recommend this option. Hi Keith,
Flash Player 17 was what is referred to as a 'loud' release and is distributed via the adobe.com site and not via silent auto-update. This blog postAn outline of Flash Runtime installation options, specifically the 'Installation Options' section) provides more information. If you license Flash Player for distribution, the blog post, and the Flash Player Administrator's Guide offer various options for organizations to update Flash Player without the possible delay of the 'loud' releases. I'm happy to answer questions on the update options you may have after reviewing the blog post and the Administrator's guide.

We do license it for distribution and I have the Admin Guide. So what you are saying is that every "loud" release we have to install it with whatever method we prefer and then the silent updates will work again with small updates within the version. Going from version to version does not work basically.

More information on hosting Background Updates locally is in the Admin Guide in Chapter 3, page 20 (Background updates from an internal server).

We looked at the internal server updates but its more involved and we don't want to setup a separate server just for this. We will just push the loud release via GPO with the config to do silent updates like before. Thanks

I think it would be easier when there is a major update to push it silently and immediately. This is so ridiculous that it doesn't.
I would uninstall Flash Player on all of our machines TODAY if these stinking education sites would move away from Flash.
