I'm unable to download Flash Player to my iMac. I reach the Adobe Flash Player Installer (window with grey background) which appears for a split second and then disappears - I then get a message saying the installation could not be undertaken (similar words) Can someone please help as this is extremely frustrating! Thanks

A more detailed explanation of the failure would help me to give you better advice, but here's what I would do next:

First, ensure that the filesystem and permissions are correct.  See the section about Disk Utility:

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support

Also, while you're in there choose Repair Filesystem Permissions as well.  Verify will frequently return clean, but hitting repair will still repair a bunch of stuff.

At that point, please do a clean install, as described here:

How to perform a "clean install" of Flash Player in Mac OS X

Okay - thanks.

1) I go to Adobe Flash Player Installation.

2) Step 1 of 3

3) I click ‘Install now’

4) Initialises

5) I click Flash Player in downloads

6) I click Install AFP

7) Ask if I want to open

8) Click open

9) Type in password

10) Screen then shows a rectangular grey window FP Installer for a split second

11) Window reverts to grey

12) Eventually receive message AFP cannot be installed

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Philip

Please use the link I provided in my first post.  It's a different installer that shouldn't throw the grey screen thing.

We've noticed that a couple anti-virus packages are flagging legitimate Flash Player downloads erroneously.  If you're running a virus scanner, you may need to temporarily disable it for the installation.

Weird. Can you please post your installer logs?

Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on the Macintosh?

You can't add attachments via email, unfortunately.  You'll need to actually come back to the forum site using your browser and add it there.

Any further ideas? Is there a paid for download that would work? Surely this issue is not insurmountable?

Please advise further/help if possible.

Thanks

Not at the moment.  The installation logs and screenshot that I asked for earlier in the thread are what I need to help you.  Come back to the actual forum website and read the thread for links to details on how to get that done.
