Issues updating flash player

I have a Mac and I am having trouble updating my adobe flash player. Every time I try, it redirects me to the App store. Why does this happen and how can I get past this step and actually update the player? Thanks!

Flash Player is not updated via the App Store. It is available at https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer.   Where are you going (what website) to get Flash Player that is directing you to the App store?
