Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages. They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3. If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.
Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plugin. That's for Photoshop.
Lightroom has the Camera Raw engine built in as part of its code base.
So if you're running LR 5.7.1 then you can open the Raw files indicated in this table.
The 7D Mark II has been supported since LR 5.7 so there's nothing to update. There must be another reason why the 7D II Raw files are not opening in LR 5.7 for the OP.
However, when I try to upload my photos I get a message stating that the software can't read the RAW files.
How are you getting the photos from the camera to the computer? Are you using Lightroom directly or are you using Canon software from camera to computer?
I tried uploading the DNG converter and the Camera RAW 9.0 but nothing is working.
No need for either of those. Lightroom 5.7.1 supports the 7D Mark II Raw files out of the box.
Thank you. That's what I thought but I was at Hunt's Photo yesterday and they said I needed the latest Camera Raw so I tried it out of desperation.
It is LR 5.7.1 . I checked the cr and it says 7.1 and later that's why I thought I the guys at Hunt were right about updating the cr because I read that I needed 8.7 or better. If LR5.7.1 comes with the cr built in why isn't "8.7 and later" an option under cr preferences? I've always used LR directly by inserting the memory card into the computer and not the camera software.
I get a message stating that the software can't read the RAW files.
What's the exact message? If it's "The following files were not imported because they could not be read" then the problems with the write permissions of the destination folder.
That fixed the problem. I never imagined that it would be an OS problem since I updated to 10.10.3 in order to run LR5.7.1. Thank you SO much!
We see this one a lot here, Kathy.
