Every time I open ADE it says "Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 has stopped working"

I am running ADE 4.0.3 on Windows 7. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and downloading an older version, but nothing works.

I click on the shortcut to open ADE, and the instant it opens "Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 has stopped working" pops up before I can click on a single thing.

Can you please try below steps:

Quit ADE

Take backup or rename the "My Digital Editions" folder in "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\" (for Windows) or "\Documents\" (for Mac)

Delete the My Digital Editions folder.

Launch ADE

Now add the books one by one from the backup to the newly created folder.

Hope this works !!

The problem still has not been resolved. Could someone please give me other suggestions? I am a book reviewer, and I cannot review books unless I can use ADE.

I am having the exact same problem. I am running Windows 8.  Mine crashes every time I try to open a file (in my case, an epub file that I have uploaded to the library).
