How to restore the e-books that were in another computer?

My laptop was stolen. So I bought a new one and then downloaded the Digital Editions using the same ID as in my previous laptop but I cannot find my e-books anywhere under my account.... Basically my main question is: why after the authorization of my new laptop, I still do not have the e-books in the library that were purchased using the Adobe ID and were located in another computer before? Am I missing something simple? Or is it even possible to find the books in some Adobe server that is tied to the accounts? Or is that the books can only be transferred from one computer to another by copying them manually? And if yes, does it mean that I have lost my books because I have not anymore the possibility to copy them because the laptop is not with me anymore? Or is there a way?
