My computer was stolen and I now have a new one, but ADE doesn't work anymore. I first saw the error message "Activation Server Error - code E, Act Not Ready." I de-installed ADE and re-installed a new version (4.0). But now I have a new error message, "Activation Server Error, code E, Adept Internal." What is the problem? This has been hugely frustrating. Thanks in advance for any help.

For this problem, you need to deauthorize and authorize ADE again.
Mac:
1. Go-> Go to folder.
Go to folder dialog will appear.
2. Type ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions
drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
ADE will be deauthorized now.
Now Authorize ADE again [Help -> Authorize Computer].
Windows:
Choose Start > Run.
In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.
In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.
Your authorization will be deleted.
ADE will be deauthorized now.
Now Authorize ADE again.

Sincere apologies for my ignorance; I'd like to follow your advice, but where (on my Mac) is this "Go" and "Go to folder"? LS

Found "Go to folder," typed as per instructions, but it says "The folder can't be found"!! Now what? Under HELP I found "erase authorization"; should I do that?

yes, try erase authorization under Help.
Let me know if it does not works.

I tried to do so; it asked for my Adobe password, but it doesn’t work: I get a message saying “Unable to Erase Authorization. Please try after some time.”
Thanks for your continued help,

I don’t have a Digital Editions folder in there (step 3)! Should I trash ADE and reinstall it (even though I did this last week, with version 4.0)?

I tried this earlier . . . it still says that the folder can’t be found. Also, when I look in the Library folder >> Adobe >> this is all I find (screenshot attached). (

Thank you for the clear instructions — but unfortunately, Digital Editions does not appear under Application Support >> Adobe (see screenshot)! ADE 4.0 is in my Applications folder but I seem to be missing important components!! I still cannot access my books in ADE.

Well, nothing worked, but the problem has been solved by a tech specialist — apparently he followed the instructions by going through the Terminal because Finder was not locating the proper files. I don’t understand why, but all is working now. Thank you for your assistance!
