Anyone else seen this?

I import a word doc (tried both doc and docx) into RH7 and all the images are missing.

Baffled.

Thanks,
Donal

Hi Donal

I'm guessing it's entirely possible that the images weren't embedded in the Word document. Instead, they may have been linked. I'm thinking that if they were linked that possibly this could happen.

Sincerely... Rick

Missing in the topics or just missing in Project Manager?

Some of the images were imported normally, the rest were cut and pasted from Snaggit into Word; however none of them show up.

They are missing completely and not even referenced in the HTML.

I created a test doc with 1 image and it worked fine so I'm wondering if it could be the size of the doc? It has 30 pages and around 42 images.

That's not really what I would call a large doc. It imports fine as a HTML doc (although images that were inserted as PNGs degrade so I'll have to retake them and insert them as JPEGs).

Thanks guys
Donal

"They are missing completely and not even referenced in the HTML"

If you import a document, it should retain the reference to the image. If something goes wrong, it usually then displays a red X. You are saying that in the HTML code, there is no reference to the image whatever?

Use Windows Explorer and see if the images are in the project folders. If they are, post back.

hmm - I tried cutting and pasting 10 pages into a new doc and that worked fine. So it is a size thing.

So for largish Word docs the process appears to be: Save doc as HTML, Import HTML file, Manually recreate TOC.

Has anyone else had any issues with largish Word docs - I don't think the one I described (30 pages, 42 images) could really be described as large.

Thanks folks,
Donal

Peter,

The are not in the Project Folder. When I look at the HTML there are no <img... tags where the images should be.

You did include the images in the import?

Try again in a test project.

Hang on. You said "imported normally". Now you are saying cut and paste.

Cut and paste from Word into RH is not a good way with images.

I tried creating a new test project and importing the doc and the images failed to appear.

I cut and pasted 10 pages of the doc into a new word doc and that's when it worked - I didn't try cutting and pasting from Word into RH7.

I don't know what you mean by did I include the images in the import - sorry.

It's a while since I looked at the import dialog. Is there an option to exclude images?

Also are you importing from the network? If you are try moving it locally.

Peter,

Thanks for the responses - no on both counts to your last questions.

The best (but by no meas satisfactory) work around I found was to import the doc and then cut and paste the images from Word into RH.

I know you said this isn't recommended; however, this way I get the TOC auto-created and I don't have to retake all the images.

Thanks again,
Donal

When you paste, you don't see the images even momentarily, correct? Perhaps your text also loses its formatting?
