i have bought and down loaded books onto a new computer which did not have adobe set up first and so i can read the books on computer only, when transfering onto e reader i get the above message, how do i get the books on reader to open please

I would ask in the Digital Editions forum, Adobe Digital Editions. This is the free Reader one, which does very little more than reading (opening) PDF files.

Also, check for instructions from the seller of the books and follow them exactly. There are many different ways to have books protected, and there is no one solution for all of them. If they say you need particular software, on a particular computer, follow this.
