Prepping CHM for programmer hand-off

This is the first time this company has used FrameMaker (through RoboHelp) to create their CHM file.

The program has a "What's This?" icon that the operator floats over some element in the window and, when clicked, opens the compiled help file onto the appropriate page. The programmer said, "Take a look at the filename.h file."

That's not helping me and the programmers don't understand why.

Take a look at the following: View * Pods * Project Set-up. Inside that pod is an area labeled Context-Sensitive Help. Expand that and you see Map Files. Expand that and you see the .H files.

Here you enter a sort of 'Twilight Zone'. I say this because sometimes the developers know all about how CSH works and the help author knows little to nothing, and sometimes it's the other way around. But this is the area where you will work with your .H file(s). Sometimes these are supplied by the developers and sometimes you have to create them yourself.

Hmm, the programmer has said there are two *.h files (in this particular environment: one, the project name; the other, afxhelp.h).

Does this mapping require a manual point-and-assign?

This just means that you have separate map files which you could have for a variety of reasons (e.g. neatness or a different method of calling the CSH). All it probably means is that the developer has to use the info (mapids) in them to know to which topic to call from the application. I think you and the developer need to sit down and go through the instances where the application calls the help. This will give you a list of mapids that you can "map" back to one or other of the .h files. Hope this helps, but come back if it doesn't.
