Error: "Unable to open" PDF files

I've got numerous academic texts purchased between 2005 and 2008 originally loaded with Acrobat Reader.  Can't open with Digital Editions.

Why do I have to I install Adobe Flash Player before I can play my games?

Same.   Actually just two book which were both over £60 each in epub.  Everyone with this problem has not had it solved. B L E R G H.   Feel like i've just wasted a weeks' paycheck by giving it to cims!

Definitely going to find a torrent and learn how to pirate books and buy paper ones until this epub thing works.
