If I uninstall ADE, will I loose the books that already have on my computer?

I need to use a different version of ADE (from 4.5 to either 3 or 4) to be able to open ACSM files.  Since 3 and 4 are earlier versions to 4.5, I guess that they will not install unless I uninstall 4.5.  If I do so, will I lose the books I already have on my computer?

I was able to un authorize ADE by using Ctrl + Maj + D.  Then I have re-authorized ADE and it can download ACSM files.  Thanks.

No, you found your eBooks in the My Digital Edition Folder under your System. When reinstall the Software this folder should not remove. If you want to make sure you easily back up this folder.

I have uninstalled ADE 4.5 and still have my books.  I have installed ADE 3 and still have the same message: Communication problem with the licensing server E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY_OR_PKCS12 when I want to open an ACSM file.  What's next to try?

  1. Quit Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later.
  3. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.
