I cannot get Digital Editions to authorize my computer. It returns an error message "Digital Editions could not connect to the activation server. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet." My internet connection is fine. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Quickly you can do a check.

Open your browser

Type URL: https://adeactivate.adobe.com/adept/Status

Press enter

You should see something like:

Capture.PNG

If it says "UP", this indicates ADE will be able to contact activation server.

If not, then, maybe firewall is causing you this issue.

Thanks

I'm having the SAME problem.  I can log in to Adobe with my ID & password, yet I cannot open my NCLEX-RN Review eBook.  I have a 4 day seminar coming up that requires 100 hours of prep time.  I *need* that book!!!  I ran the link posted above and it displayed "UP".  Still can't open the file.

I've Uninstalled/Reinstalled twice. I've deleted temp files. My Internet

connection is fine. No issues accessing anything. I've changed firewall

settings.

Nothing is allowing me to open the eBooks

Hi,

Would you be able to try the below on your Windows machine and then test if this resolves the issue.

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall

2. On the left column, please click "Turn Windows Firewall on or off".

3. Now select "Turn off Windows Firewall" option under each of the heading for "Domain network location settings", "Home or work network location settings" and then also under "Public network location settings".

4. After selecting this for each of the 3 settings, then click OK.

5. Now close all Windows and then launch Adobe Digital Editions and test if you are able to authorize.

In case this works, then please let me know and I will share the settings that would allow you to use Adobe Digital Edition with Windows Firewall Enabled.

Regards,

Sharad

Hey Guys!

Problem resolved!  What I did was 1.  Dumped ADE version 4.0 2.   Installed ADE 3.0 3.  Re-downloaded the ebook

It worked like a charm!

I ended up downloading Kindle on my laptop and getting the eBooks through

Amazon since I had to have these books for a class and could no longer wait

for someone to figure out how to fix it.

I'll have to see if using the old version of Adobe Digital Edition will fix

my issue. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi,

In case you have checked that internet is working fine on the machine, then I would suggest you to try the below and check if this fixes the issue.

On Windows machine,

  1. Choose Start > Run,
  2. Type  %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc
  3. Then press Enter.
  4. Now look for file named as "hosts" and rename this file to "hosts_OLD"
  5. Now launch Adobe Digital Editions and try authorizing.
  6. Once it works, navigate back to the above "hosts_OLD" file and rename it back to "hosts".

Please try this and let me know in case this helps in resolving this issue.

Some context about this file:- Operating system hosts files map host names to IP addresses. An incorrectly configured hosts file can affect your computer's ability to connect to Adobe's activation servers and may cause some unexpected errors.

Regards,

Sharad

Hi,

The solution of robertw65423669 works for me. I deinstalled version 4.0.3 and Installed version 3.0. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate and ESET Nod 32 Antivitus and Firewall.

After validating the ID I got the following error: Error obtaining the license:  E_ADEPT_REQUEST_EXPIRED.

After restarting Digital Editions it works. I think that version 4.0.3 have many issues.

Thank you.
