EOL, as in the product's End Of Life.

'EOL' indicates that the product is at the end of its useful life, from vendor's point of view, and that they intend to stop supporting it. I am struggling to find information online about whether Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 has met it's EOL, and if not, when is it scheduled to. Unfortunately the information does not seem to be readily available 😕

Updates to ADE 3.x are currently not being developed any longer. But it still authenticates with the AdobeID servers so you could use it if you desired. It will likely not be able to support the new standard for ePub 3, however. Adobe's efforts are focused on ADE 4.x and above and I suggest you use the newer versions if possible.
